Apply to participate
Due to the limited on-site capacity of our school, we ask those interested in attending to submit an application via the CECAM website.
Update 05.10.2023: All decisions have been sent out to on-site applicants; remote applicants should be notified in the next week or so. Please note that the workshop is now full and we are not accepting any late applications. Thank you all for your interest!
Application guidelines (archived)
Please carefully follow the below guidelines -- applications that do not follow the guidelines may be silently ignored. Please also fill out an application even if you wish to attend remotely (be sure to indicate "online" attendance in the application in this case).
A detailed application guide is provided in the document at the bottom of this page (direct link). We invite you to refer to this guide carefully in applying for our school. Please see below for a summary and some important practical information.
Required materials
CV (1-2 pages)
Motivation letter (<250 words)
Please see the application guidelines for advice on what to write here. This is an important part of your application!
Statement of support from supervisor, if relevant
This is mainly to make sure you have your supervisor's support, e.g. for covering travel and accommodation costs, as well as endorsement that it will be relevant to your research project and researcher skillset.
Please have the statement sent by email to applications@mlip-workshop.xyz*
Not needed if you are an independent group leader or otherwise self-funded participant (please explain in your application)
Poster contribution
Every participant is strongly encouraged to submit an abstract for a poster to be presented in person. In order to encourage an active conference environment, we will prioritise applicants who have submitted a poster abstract.
Please note that while posters can be printed on-site, we do not recommend doing so as there is no central university printing service. Posters may be printed via various private companies located in the Helsinki area (indicative cost: 35 € for an A0 poster), or on a self-service basis e.g. from the central library.
Cost
While there is no registration fee for the workshop, participants are responsible for their own travel and accommodation expenses. Please check the Practical Info page for details on accommodation options and their cost. During the conference, there will also be an opportunity to participate in a social event, for which an additional contribution of 25 € will be required to help cover the cost.
Application timeline and deadlines
Applications for the school will be open until Friday, 22 September. We will review the applications starting from Monday, 28 August. All applications received by then will be given equal consideration; after that, they will be reviewed in the order they are received. Each applicant will be notified of the decision as soon as it has been made.
Although the application portal will remain open until September, we strongly encourage all prospective participants to submit applications by 28 August for the best chance of acceptance, as well as to enable early and economical travel and accommodation bookings. Please do not book any travel or accommodation before your application is accepted!
